DMZ DOCS focuses on the educational aspects of documentaries and operates an educational program 'DMZ Todoc Todoc for Youth' and a production workshop 'DMZ DOCS Academy for Youth¡¯. DMZ DOCS would like to provide an educational experience to the younger generation in hopes of helping them to learn diverse values from the educational programs with documentaries.
The program is for middle and high school students, youth groups, communities, and the general public to expand the views about the world. The audience will participate in documentary screenings that include different values such as challenge, growth, career, peace, environment, human rights, and communication. There also will be talk session with public figures about the documentary.
The 9th documentary production workshop which started in 2011 to encourage and support documentary production of youth, and seven media and institutions for youth in Gyeonggi-do support the workshop. The participants will complete a documentary with a five-month mentoring from documentary directors, and the completed works will be screen at Special Screening during the festival. It will be a chance to meet the works depicting the daily lives of youth, their concerns, and interests in their unique ways and views.
The Documentary Class for the Youth from Multicultural Family is a new project with the Asia Development Foundation. It is to provide educational programs for the youth, aiming to cultivate healthy peer cultures and perspectives on society through the educational value of documentaries. In addition to the training programs, documentary production workshop will be operated, and the completed works will be screened during the festival.
The Documentary Co-production Workshop for Asian Youth celebrates its 3rd anniversary this year, and it is organized by university students from four countries, including Korea, China, Taiwan, and Japan. They discussed various issues and made groups fir to their interest, then went through a two-year co-production process and three workshops in Korea and China. The completed film will be screened at DMZ DOCS next year.
